The Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero was a three-engine Italian medium bomber and torpedo bomber used extensively by the Regia Aeronautica during World War II, serving from 1939 onwards and becoming one of Italy's most capable and widely-produced aircraft of the war. It was particularly renowned for its effectiveness as a torpedo bomber in the Mediterranean theater and for its relatively good defensive armament and speed compared to other contemporary bombers.
