The Renault FT was a French light tank that entered service in 1917 and became the world's first tank to feature a fully rotating turret, revolutionizing tank design and playing a significant role in breaking the stalemate of World War I trench warfare. It saw extensive use throughout the war and was adopted by numerous countries, establishing the basic layout of modern tanks with its turret-mounted gun, armored hull, and tracked propulsion system.
