The Polikarpov R-5 was a Soviet reconnaissance aircraft that first flew in 1928 and served extensively throughout the 1930s and early 1940s, becoming one of the most widely used reconnaissance planes of the Soviet Air Force. It was known for its reliability, versatility in various reconnaissance and light bombing roles, and its service across multiple theaters including operations during the Spanish Civil War and early stages of World War II.
