The MiG-19 was a Soviet supersonic fighter aircraft that first flew in 1953 and entered service in 1955, becoming the first Soviet fighter to exceed the speed of sound in level flight. It saw extensive combat during the Cold War era, particularly in the Korean War and Vietnam War, and was widely exported to communist and allied nations, earning a reputation as a highly maneuverable and reliable interceptor.
