The MiG-15 was a Soviet jet fighter aircraft that first flew in 1947 and became the primary fighter for the Soviet Air Force and its allies during the Korean War (1950-1953), where it earned notoriety as one of the first jet-versus-jet combat aircraft and a formidable opponent to Western fighters like the F-86 Sabre. Its swept-wing design and powerful Rolls-Royce-derived engine made it one of the most significant fighter aircraft of the early Cold War era.
