The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a twin-engine fighter aircraft used by the United States during World War II, and the "Droop Snoot" variant was a modified reconnaissance and pathfinder version equipped with a glazed nose section housing a bombardier for precision bombing missions from 1943-1945. This distinctive variant became known for leading bombing formations and conducting photo reconnaissance operations across the European and Pacific theaters.
