The IJN Shōhō was a Japanese light aircraft carrier commissioned in 1942 that served throughout the Pacific War until its sinking by American forces at the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, becoming one of the first aircraft carriers to be lost in combat due to air attacks alone.
