The Heinkel He-51 was a German biplane fighter aircraft that first flew in 1933 and served as the Luftwaffe's primary fighter during the mid-1930s before being superseded by more advanced monoplane designs like the Messerschmitt Bf 109. The aircraft gained combat experience during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) where it was used by German volunteer pilots supporting Francisco Franco's forces.
