The Hawker Sea Harrier FRS.1 was a British naval fighter aircraft that entered service with the Royal Navy in 1978, serving as the primary air defense fighter for aircraft carriers during the Falkland Islands War in 1982 and beyond. It was renowned for being the first vertical/short takeoff and landing (VSTOL) fighter jet to see combat, where its exceptional maneuverability and ability to operate from small ships proved decisive against conventional aircraft.
