The TBF Avenger was a single-engine torpedo bomber used by the United States Navy during World War II, introduced in 1942 and renowned for its role in pivotal naval battles including the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. The aircraft became one of the most widely produced and operationally significant naval bombers of the war, serving with distinction throughout the Pacific Theater and remaining in service into the postwar era.
