The Grumman F9F Cougar was a swept-wing jet fighter developed in the early 1950s as an improved variant of the straight-winged F9F Panther, seeing extensive service with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during the Korean War and beyond. The Cougar was notable for its swept-wing design, which provided better performance at transonic speeds, and it became one of the Navy's primary carrier-based fighters throughout the 1950s.
