The Grumman F9F Cougar was a swept-wing jet fighter developed for the United States Navy in the late 1940s, first entering service in 1951 and seeing extensive combat during the Korean War where it became one of the primary carrier-based fighters of the conflict. The aircraft was known for its superior performance over early Soviet MiG-15s and served as a significant technological advancement over its straight-wing F9F Panther predecessor.
