The Fairey Swordfish was a British biplane torpedo bomber used extensively by the Royal Navy during World War II, serving from 1936 through the war's end and becoming famous for its role in the 1940 attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto and the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in 1941. This floatplane variant featured pontoons instead of wheels, enabling operations from ships and coastal bases where traditional landing facilities were unavailable.
