The Fairey Battle was a British single-engine light bomber aircraft used primarily during World War II, entering service in 1937 and seeing significant action during the Battle of France in 1940, where it became notorious for its poor performance and high casualty rates against German fighters. The aircraft is remembered as one of the most vulnerable bombers of the early war period, with crews suffering devastating losses due to its slow speed and inadequate defensive armament.
