The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a single-seat attack aircraft that first flew in 1945 and saw extensive service from the Korean War through the Vietnam War, becoming legendary for its rugged construction, long loiter time, and heavy payload capacity that made it ideal for close air support and ground attack missions. The A-1H variant, produced in the 1950s, was widely used by the U.S. Air Force and Navy during the Vietnam War, where it earned the nickname "Spad" and became one of the most beloved and effective propeller-driven attack aircraft in military history.
