The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a carrier-based dive bomber used by the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 onward, serving as the primary replacement for the earlier SBD Dauntless and earning a reputation as a rugged, hard-hitting aircraft despite its challenging handling characteristics. It saw extensive action in the Pacific Theater and participated in major engagements including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the sinking of Japanese warships.
