The Boeing P-26 Peashooter was the first all-metal monoplane fighter adopted by the U.S. Army Air Corps, entering service in 1934 and serving through the early 1940s as a capable but increasingly obsolete interceptor known for its high speed and maneuverability. The aircraft gained fame for its distinctive appearance, open cockpit design, and its role as a front-line fighter during the early phases of World War II in the Pacific, including notable action during the Japanese attack on the Philippines in 1941.
