The Boeing B-17D was a heavy bomber variant used by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, serving primarily in the Pacific Theater from 1942 onwards with improved defensive armament and engine upgrades compared to earlier models. The B-17, known as the "Flying Fortress," became one of the most iconic American aircraft of WWII, renowned for its rugged construction, long-range capability, and role in daylight precision bombing campaigns against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.
