The Avia S-199 was a Czechoslovak fighter aircraft produced in the late 1940s, powered by a German Bf 109 airframe fitted with a Junkers Jumo 211 engine, and is primarily known for its service with the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The aircraft was notable for its unstable handling characteristics due to the engine-airframe mismatch, yet it played a crucial role as one of Israel's first combat fighters in the newly formed nation's struggle for survival.
